1. What role does vaccination play in control of diseases? Explain.
Ans: Disease prevention is the key to public health. It is always better to prevent a disease than to treat it. Vaccines prevent disease in the people who receive them and protect those who come into contact with unvaccinated individuals. Vaccines help prevent infectious diseases and save lives.
2. Define “health” according to WHO.
Ans: According to World Health Organization (WHO), health is a “state of complete physical, mental and social well being and not merely the absence of disease.” It means proper functioning of both, the body and the mind.
3. How is natural immunity different from acquired immunity?
Ans: Natural immunity - It is present from the time of birth and provides a general protection against the entry of any foreign agents into our body.
Acquired immunity- It develops during one’s life time and is therefore known as acquired immunity. It works on the simple principle of producing antibodies in response to antigens.
4. List at least four steps essential to remain healthy.
Ans: List of four steps essential to remain healthy are
- Brush your teeth, cut your nails.
- Take bath daily, wear clean clothes.
- Eat nutritious food.
- Have regular eating habits.
- Exercise regularly
5. How are personal health and community health related? Explain with the help of an example.
Ans: Personal health and community health are inter-related. The health of the community depends on the health and personal hygiene of the individuals of the community. If the individuals of the community stay healthy and behave responsibly towards the environment and surroundings, create a lively, healthy and hygienic environment, then the community on the whole would be healthy.
6. What precautions will you take while storing food to prevent it from becoming unhealthy?
Ans: To prevent the spread of bacteria while you're preparing food:
- Always wash your hands with warm waterand soap before preparing any food.
- Wash your hands after handling raw meat, poultry, fish, or egg products.
- Keep raw meats and their juices away from other foods in the refrigerator and on countertops.
